Case Studies | Head of Data & Strategy – E-commerce

BRIEF:

Following the acquisition of an e-commerce travel business by a multi-billion dollar US Private Equity firm, McLean were tasked with running a search to find a best in class Head of Data to help modernise and improve efficiency, as well as help with overall strategy. The business operated across multiple geographies targeting the middle class traveler. The role required someone who had previously worked within e-commerce and could bring best practice and innovative ideas to the company.

PROCESS:

Given the specific requirements needed, the search encompassed individuals from both interim and permanent backgrounds and was a full global search. During the project we spoke to professionals across the US, Europe and Asia and the client was keen on seeing results swiftly so ideas were flagged up as we come across them.

OUTCOME:

Whilst the search was challenging due to the high expectations of the investors, and difficult logistically with the multiple stakeholders, McLean were able to present high calibre options within the allotted time frame. One option was an individual from a major online retailer who after a number of video conferences was then flown out to meet the owners and business. He was offered and subsequently accepted the role as Head of Data and has proved a critical hire for the business.
