A globally leading UK university was seeking to appoint to a prestigious named clinical professorship in the field of ophthalmology. The post-holder would also take on the leadership of the relevant division within a clinical department and would be appointed to an honorary consultant post at the associated NHS Trust. The brief sought a medically qualified and clinically active ophthalmologist with an established reputation for research in a relevant area, ideally to complement the University’s existing strengths in Ophthalmology.
McLean conducted an exhaustive global search covering universities and independent research institutes, as well as research-intensive clinical settings around the world. A strong and diverse field of qualified candidates were presented from prestigious universities in Italy, Singapore, the UK and the USA from which a final shortlist of five candidates (40% female) was invited to interview. The successful candidate a highly respected clinical and research leader in an area of strategic interest for the University, who presented a compelling and ambitious vision for the future of Ophthalmology research at the University.
