A research-intensive university in the United Kingdom needed a Director of Research and Innovation to lead a team of around 100 staff and help drive forward their research agenda. The role required someone with a strong track record in change leadership and the ability to influence across a complex academic environment.
Following an unsuccessful internal appointment process, McLean was asked to run a focused and efficient external search. The university, home to 17,000 students and generating £350 million in annual revenue, needed a leader who could bring fresh perspective to research strategy and operations.
We delivered a robust shortlist of experienced candidates with professional services backgrounds and a deep understanding of the research landscape. A successful appointment was made just one week after final interviews. Two other appointable candidates were also identified, adding strength to the university’s talent pipeline.
