Mandated by a leading UK investment bank, McLean were tasked with hiring a Head of Cleantech. The brief was to find someone to launch a new vertical that would advise and helping companies capitalise on the opportunities presented by the transition to net zero, across both public and private markets.

Cleantech has been a fast-growing market across investment banking but with a relatively small number of genuine specialists operating within it, but significant demand from individuals to move into the sector. With these nuances in mind, the McLean team mapped and assessed a wide spectrum of options, both inside and outside of banking.

The market proved highly competitive, with several banks/advisors also seeking to hire at the same time. Candidates frequently had several options to consider at the same time. One particular candidate who was highly regarded throughout the process was ultimately offered and accepted. The candidate in question brought a unique mixture of experience, having spent time in banking, but also directly with the Cleantech industry.

The bank was pleased with the outcome and the Cleantech team have already secured a number of interesting mandates.
